Professor Cornelia Lang, Director of Undergraduate Studies in Physics and Astronomy, shared these tips and resources:
Combination of asynchronous lectures with synchronous “lab discussion” and “discussion” sections – Physics has developed a set of virtual labs where students rent/purchase a small measurement device and then do labs at home with a pre-lab discussion and real-time support led by a TA (we will be piloting this during Summer 2020)
Synchronous virtual lecture times with real-time demonstrations recorded in an empty classroom (appropriate for STEM disciplines with demonstrations equipment) – These recordings can be made available for students who don’t attend the live sessions. But these help to keep students on track. These have been used successfully in the pre-med Physics courses.
